Bob Dylan has created a legacy of great songs, albums, live performances and literature. At 80 he is rapidly becoming modern culture's American Picasso-in-song. This is why the Roadhouse Series will celebrate the 2021 publication of his bestselling book, The Philosophy of Modern Song. It is a literary road trip through Dylan's visionary imagination with 66 chapters with each devoted to songs that have influenced, entertained, informed and illuminated his life and ours. His creative writing in this book is brilliantly and uniquely Dylan as he brings stories and insights in vibrant prose that brings a new life to great American songs.
For this edition of the Roadhouse Series, the best musicians, singers and songwriters from the LA area will perform some of the handpicked songs Dylan chose to write about for this book. You will hear songs as diverse as The Clash's London Calling to/and Sinatra's "Strangers in the Night. The songs are drawn from the best of American rock, soul, blues, folk, country, gospel and jazz artists.
The Roadhouse host, Terry Paul Roland and the musicians will prsent spoken word readings of short samples from Dylan's book as well as unique musical interpretations of classic songs by the likes of Townes Van Zandt, Pete Seeger, Jackson Browne, Bobby Darrin, Rogers & Hart, Cher, Elvis and specially selected classic Dylan songs. We will be accompanied on this musical road trip by the Roadhouse music director, Barrett Tagliarino on guitar and joined by Owen Goldman(drums) Neil Rosengarden(keys) and Paul Marshall(bass).
